ABSTRACT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The study investigated the Influence of Self-concept on biology Students\u2019 Academic performance in Katsina Local Government Area. The research design used for this study was ex-post facto design. The population of the study consisted of two thousand eight hundred and forty (2,840) SS11 students in Katsina Metropolis. A sample of eighty five (85) SS11 students was drawn using simple random sampling technique. Three research questions and three hypotheses guided the study.  Self-Concept Biology Questionnaire (SCBQ) and Biology Achievement Test (BAT) were the two instruments used for data collection. The instruments were validated by experts with the reliability coefficient of 0.69 and 0.78 respectively. Research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation while the research hypotheses were tested using simple linear regression and t-test statistics at 0.05 level of significant. Research findings revealed that Self-concept has significant influence on academic performance of biology students. Also the study showed that, biology students with Positive self-concept performed better than those with negative Self-concept. The study also showed that Male Biology students with positive self-concept performed better than Female biology students with positive self-concept. It was recommended among others that biology teachers  should encourage positive self-concept among biology students in secondary school and should also be retrained through workshops, and seminars on how to motivated students towards having positive Self-concept in their studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
